I was hoping you'd have more details about the single U.K. death, and I wasn't disappointed. The news stories I've heard have been reliable in a "my cousin's wife's best friend's neighbor's boss's shetland pony's breeder's co-parent died of omicron" sort of way. I'd say falling off a ladder with a fortuitous shout is equally credible, although how dare you so defy the ladder tumbler's right to medical privacy, a thing which we can all agree we support wholeheartedly?

We're all hoping they might have some more details about it too - but the government are remaining curiously tight-lipped about it.

Couldn't be they're trying to hoodwink us? No, surely not, could never happen, not from such honourable and trustworthy people - unthinkable

I am grateful that it seems like most of the US is going to resist the vaccine passport thing, I hope. Philadelphia appears to now be succumbing to them, but then you have the Democratic governor of Colorado sounding "back to normal, public health would keep you restricted forever if they could" notes. So strange times I guess.

You could write a whole paper on how often governments attempts to "reach" people with "dialog" turn almost immediately into just another excuse to call all the dissidents one type of extremist or another.

God bless the US of A

I have been so profoundly grateful for the Federal structure there - it has allowed the whole world (media willing) to see directly the lunacy of all of the restrictions - and the absurdity of the "predictions".

I'm thankful for the "Neanderthal" thinking of places like Texas and Florida.

Best case scenario is that most people wake up, a bit shame-faced, like Bobby Ewing in the shower (yes, I am that old) - and we stumble back to normality. Once again, the US seems to be leading the way there too.

At some point the USA might, again, have to bomb some sense into us Germans. Will be much easier this time since in military terms we are a joke now.

Regarding federal structure: we have a little of it, and it prevented draconian lockdowns (when compared to, eg, France or Spain). The USA has more of it, and that's indeed a blessing.

And finally, German lecture: say "Ministerpräsidentenkonferenz" (newly invented body where the governors meet to discuss Covid restrictions).

Hilarious. And refreshing! Because your humor and tone is so how I think most of us are feeling. Fed up, no longer shocked by the stupidity (because I can't keep wasting my energy in trying to figure out why they are so stupid), no more patience with the bullshit, and the only thing we can do is laugh at everyone hoping for the best in the end.

Thanks MaryAnne - much appreciated

My sarcasm is about the only thing keeping the last vestiges of my sanity from oozing away. I'm living in some Dali-world, where the clocks are melting around me, and nothing makes sense anymore.

When you call people those things, it's okay for the government to shoot them!
