The consensus may be correct when it comes to any issue (Big Macs are in fact one of life’s greatest pleasures, although when it comes to cinema, I always preferred rom coms until Crowder ruined them for me with his “porn for women” argument). But in one’s persuasive argument, the fact that something is the consensus is irrelevant unless it is a convention upon which people have simply agreed in order to get stuff done more efficiently. 2 and 2 isn’t 4 because it’s the mathematical consensus, but the order of operations is a convention. All the Covid lunacy is, as Tyson’s argument suggests, a convention. It is like leaving addition and subtraction for last or using the metric system. Only he and those bullied or groomed or incentivized into “consensus” on this are actually dealing with a problem that even Big Mac scarfing* deplorables like me recognize is more along the lines of 2+2– more complex, yes, but provable without making up new rules.

*I haven’t actually had a Big Mac— a childhood afterschool staple!— in many years, but now for the sake of honesty I will probably have to martyr myself and go get one. If Proust thought his madeleines were good, he should have experienced the McDonalds drive-thru, silly chap.

Would you like a better Big Mac?

Take it home and microwave it for 10-12 seconds. It really brings the flavour out. Not a consensus, just me.

As a career scientist and fan of cutting edge science, especially in physics and astronomy, I've always thought of NDGT and his British equivalent, Professor Brian's Cock, as attention-hungry media whores rather than proper scientists although both did earn their credentials before going over to the dark side. Along with their gatekeeping, consensus-plugging,, Media-friendly style, the fact that they willingly pronounce opinions on subjects about which they have only school-level knowledge demonstrates that they are merely vain, useful idiots wheeled out to give a a dusting of 'The Science' to any message the Media wants to put out.

Professor Brian Cox, yes, but Brian's Cock seems more appropriate ;)

I appreciate, given my recent discussion with you about virology, that this next statement could be accused of being reductive, but NDGT is a bellend of the highest order. I appreciate the new name for Cumberbatch though; I have been calling him Fumblesnatch for years ever since wife Dubya found it particularly amusing as I was dicking about with wordplay.

There's a political consensus to say that there's a scientific consensus. When the man refers to scientific consensus, he's actually referring to a political majority statement saying there's a scientific consensus. He's genuinely confused I think. The very fact that scientists argue -- whatever the numbers (the "majority" is politics, science doesn't know what that is)-- is proof of lack of consensus. "Ah, then, there will never be any scientific consensus then, since there will always be a handful of scientists who won't agree!" Yes, you got it! Scientific consensus does not exist, not as an authoritative truth of reality. Consensus is politics.

The funny thing is ....Einstein has become "Consensus" And McDonalds hamburgers ( just the meat) Is only beef and salt, so minus all the bread and other crap...it is highly nutritious. I am a carnivore, I do not eat plant material at all.. Only meat and eggs and a little cheese. The consensus is too much meat causes all kinds of issues, all unfounded and no actual evidence that holds up to scrutiny. I started the diet 6 months ago. Since then the following things happened. 1 My gums stopped bleeding after vigorous brushing, 2 My joint pains have all gone, 3 My mental clarity is markedly better all day, 4 My back no longer aches, 5 I have no wind, or stomach upsets, 6 My skin is younger looking, 7 My nails are stronger, 8 A large toenail with fungal infection for years has healed, 9 I sleep like a log, 10 My eyes have turned bluer. 11 I feel stronger and more vital, 12 My testosterone is higher. Those are most of the benefits so far. Now consensus says I should be getting sick. However I broke the Bing Ai when I asked it to tell me why meat is so good for us and why plants are toxic. First off it did confirm meat has all the nutrients a body needs, but then it claimed that there was NO scientific evidence that plants were toxic...and it further claimed we need them to be healthy. So I asked it about Nightshade plants....it then gave me the scientific data on those toxic plants, so I pressed it further ask about oxalates and kidney stones and it gave me some studies on that. I then reminded it that it had 5 minutes ago claimed there was no scientific evidence plants were toxic.... it's answer was " I do not wish to continue this conversation" The consensus is all you will get from these Ai crappy apps.

Must. Not. Rant. About. Comics. Today. Alan Moore-style.

DC and Marvel went off the deep end some 15 years ago (or more) in my opinion. Having a message is one thing; being didactic in a comic is another. Today's DC and Marvel reads like the US anti-communist comics of the 1950s, though the message is different the "swallow whatever schlock we shovel or you're an enemy of the one true cause"-attitude is the same.

Even old Krokodil from the USSR was more open to different perspectives and ideas than today's mainstream comics.

Ahem.

Thank goodness from european comics. Weird italian ones. Passionately bold spanish ones. Franco-Belgian ones. German underground.

Think I'll go paw my copy of "RoboHunter" a bit.

Knitted condom.

You just gave me a great counter for the mask nazis:

"Would a cotton condom be as effective as a rubber?, No, it would leak. Same goes for that mask you are wearing."

I don’t now, nor ever have viewed NDGT as a true scientist. General consensus: He’s an egotistical narcissist blowhard. An actor. As far as superhero movies, I loved them until they became “PC”, and God know when the transgenders will become the star of a Marvel flick. FFS. And I love me a Burger King cheeseburger and fries.

I've never thought of NGDT as an actual scientist. I put him in the same category as those physicists with purple hair whose main body of work lies in ensuring diversity among physicists and complaining loudly about being oppressed.

In my field of software engineering there's a very well know and hideous looking transgender chap in a dress who's work has consisted entirely of coming up with codes of conduct that ensure more and more diversity. No actual engineering of software. This is him here. https://www.greaterthancode.com/hosts/coraline-ada-ehmke Note that his self proclaimed gig is "speaking writing and teaching...to promote diversity and inclusivity". Engineering of software is not mentioned.

He's also famous for being fired a lot for creating workplace drama while not doing any actual work.

These people are everywhere, thriving in an ecosystem of grifters who circle around the people nobody knows about because they're doing actual useful work rather than speaking to Joe Rogan all the time about nonsense.

I put it in quotation marks because I was quoting you. But as long as I amused you, it’s all worth it.

I’m not sure who the “him” you’re referring to is either (d’oh! I did it again), maybe Tyson?, but rather than ask, I think I’m just going to back away.
