And in Austria we have the Adolf variant

It would appear that Austria want to mandate the vaccine for everyone now. I think they have the dubious distinction of being the first country in the world to do this. Their most famous son would be proud.

20 months ago I watched some YouTube commentaries where they said this kind of thing would happen. I thought “let’s go Brandon, you’re just a conspiracy loon” - or words to that effect.

I have now eaten all my hats. If anyone has a hat they’re not currently using I could do with one.

I’m making light of what is a truly terrifying and abhorrent situation. I’m not overly religious, but was the anti-Christ born whilst we weren’t looking? The Beast has sunk its claws into Austria and is going to leave its mark.

Taking a peek into the marvellous grotesquery that is Twitter, one can find plenty of people who think what Austria is doing is the right thing to do.

What’s happening is truly staggering when you put it in the proper context. This is a virus which we know kills at most only 3 out of every 1,000 infected. We know the average age of people dying of covid19 is greater than average life expectancy. We know that the vulnerable are those who are immuno-senescent, or otherwise immuno-compromised in some way. This is, overwhelmingly, not a virus that kills people in prime physical condition.

Yet here we are, demanding that everyone be vaccinated. Why? I’m not going to deny that covid is serious. It is. But there is a whole world of difference between serious and emergency. Many people seem to have lost their ability to appreciate nuance in any way. Have they just been carried away by living in these “unprecedented” times?

Well these are unprecedented times - not because of the virus itself, which is not having an unprecedented impact at all. It is our entire response that has been unprecedented, unwarranted and wholly out of proportion with the actual threat level posed.

Is this how we want live? To be walking pin-cushions at our governments’ behest for the rest of our lives?

The new slogan needs to be “Their body, their choice”. In what sense will any of our lives belong to us ever again if we allow this to happen?

Austria - the nation who gave us the original Adolf variant - on the precipice of another world-beating first.
