It looks like old Mr. Young somehow unquestionably believes that mega corporation Pfizer with it's past criminal history now has our best interests in mind. Neil has guzzled the kool aid. Based on what he has said about Rogan and Malone I doubt that he even listened to the podcast. Apparently he only supports freedom and free speech when it's about something he agrees with and censorship is fine when it is censoring what he disagrees with. It's sad to hear that he is a bigot. Of course he isn't the only bigot from his era. There are others like him who have become "liberal" versions of Archie Bunker. What next? Will Neil be clamoring for war with Russia? Maybe he should give a listen to his "The Needle and the Damage Done" and think about how that might relate to the current vax mandates.
I have always hated Neil Young's music. I will always hate Neil Young's music. The only part of "Rockin' in the Free World" is that line. Too bad someone else didn't write a more uplifting song with the same line.
Thanks for reminding me that Leonard Cohen said it better: "Give me crack and anal sex/Take the only tree that's left/And stuff it up the hole/In your culture."
The evacuation via spaceship brings to my mind part III of "A Canticle for Leibowitz". In case we fuck the whole thing up and manage to let some people escape the planet, I will bet more on Elon Musk or on some church (as in the Canticle) than on governments to build the spaceships.
You took the words literally out of my mouth. Pretty sure the "Canticle" was the inspiration for that song . . . And to anyone else, if you haven't read this gem, you won't be disappointed . . .
That’s Willie Nelson isn’t it, not Neil Young. You may not be ready for this, in your journey out of the embrace of the mainstream, but there is more to Cohen than meets the eye.
"Free speech, free expression, must always be the cornerstone of any truly free society." Indeed.
This crisis has made me deeply appreciative of the wisdom of America's founders. The very first amendment to the US Constitution guarantees the right to speak freely. If that right is infringed, they have the solution to it in the very next amendment: the right to bear arms.
Re: environmental disaster, etc., Rudolph -- have you read Koonin's "Unsettled" yet? Him being also trained as a physicist, I wondered what your take on his examination of the state of 'climate science' was. Haven't finished it yet myself, but I like his disclaimers and admissions of uncertainty sprinkled here and there in the text. I am still only chewing on the edges of the book, and haven't digested the whole thing yet.
I like music. I'm not into the cult of personality that tends to go with the music scene, however.
When I was young, I was into Young. Not all of his tunes, but some. I got older and stumbled upon 'Suzanne,' and then for a while I became a dedicated Cohen fan. It's always a pleasure to rediscover a song like 'Dance Me to the End of Love.' Incredibly beautiful music that for me resonates deeply. What I don't like, however, is the pretense of some musicians and lyricists of being 'seers,' of being specially gifted men and women capable of seeing higher and farther than the common, wretched masses. Young, to me, always struck me as being someone who took himself a bit too seriously. Of course, I may be wrong in that appraisal. But it seems to me to be confirmed in the ultimatum that Young delivered to Spotify. Another good tune is "Sweet Home Alabama."
Neil Young has eclipsed into obscurity for the large majority that subscribe to Spotify. It’s the only tool he’s got left in the chest to try to make himself relevant again. As people age and become more fearful of death-they’ll cling to whatever their physicians tell them to stay alive. He’s convinced that the unvaccinated are driving the pandemic, thus Joe Rogan and his ilk pose a threat to his survival.

Pity the Quo didn't use the word 'Free' - rockin' all over the world

haha - Leonard did have a rather wonderful way with words
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue
But Hallelujah!
Approved™ and Safe™ - LoL!

Like what?

Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling ……..
- “Everybody knows” …….. Cohen still speaks to us all!
A minor point, but glass straws are the way to go.
If P.T. Barnum was alive today, he'd die from irony.
Hah yeah. Joe Rogan generates hundreds of millions for Spotify. Neil Young? Mmm, tens of thousands, maybe?
I bet more people listen to a single Rogan podcast than listen to Neil Young songs in a month.
It’s easy to see which way this is going to go.
